Advocacy Behavior-change and Communications (ABC) was formed in February 2002 to address the Poverty Situation, Poor Governance, Environmental Degradation & Management and the HIV/AIDS prevalence, within the Lake Victoria Region of western Kenya.

Mr Okowa (ABC programs Coordinator) a GKP Youth & ICT 2005 Award winner, being interviewed by a journalist at the World Summit for the Information Society in Tunis.

It stems from a poll carried out in 2002 to identify ten priority development issues that needed to be addressed among young people in the region. HIV/AIDS emerged top on the list followed by Poverty. ABC was then registered with a goal of sensitizing the community about the un tapped opportunities in the region as well as encourage them to Advocate for their Rightful place in the Local and Central government in terms of service delivery. The other important goal was improving the Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) of vulnerable people in the region by bringing about a lasting positive change in their attitudes and behavior and those of the communities in which they live. This was followed by a baseline survey, which ABC did in three districts of Nyando, Kisumu and Bondo.
